This 1990 Toyota Hiace has served as our shop vehicle for 2016 and is now available for purchase. Every year we pick a new vehicle that’s used as both a show vehicle and to haul equipment to our events up and down the East Coast. This year we chose to use another Hiace – the unique looks and large cargo area make it the ideal support vehicle. It seats up to eight and both rear seats are easily removed to free up cargo space, which we used to transport our entire booth setup for events. Over the past 6 months we’ve logged over 2,600 trouble-free miles with no issues.

The exterior features a few changes, the most obvious modifications being the aftermarket aero and “Japanese Classics” vinyl. The vinyl certainly gives this van a unique look but would be easily removed with a heat gun if the new owner decided to do so. The front end has also been upgraded to a newer style front end with aftermarket lights. The stock wheels have also been replaced with 18” aftermarket wheels which resemble SSR Viennas and compliment the aero well. The body is in good shape with no major dents or dings. The paint is in similar shape and shines nicely with only minor blemishes from normal use.

The inside has also had some customization done by the previous owner which can be seen in the photos. The stock seats have had leather-esque covers installed and are in very good condition with no major rips or tears. The driver side door panels show some wear and light stains, but the other panels and carpet are in good shape and without severe flaws. The seating area behind the front seats feature privacy curtains and a dual zone climate control system for passengers.

Mechanically this Hiace has been extremely reliable and has never let us down. The longest trip completed was a 700 miles round-trip to Pennsylvania with hundreds of pounds of equipment on board. The 2.4L gasoline engine starts right away, idles correctly, and has no issues keeping up with traffic on the highway. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and correctly. The engine is easily accessible by lifting up the passenger seat or form underneath for routine maintenance. The front shocks show some wear and could use a refresh. All other systems are in good shape, including the A/C, which blows cold. Currently this unique and reliable van has 115k original miles.
