Hands down one of the most instantly recognizable cars to ever roll off a Mazda assembly line, the FD RX7. Finished in the quintessential Brilliant Black (PZ) none the less. This one comes to us in great shape with only 60K verified miles. Its stunning good looks, lightweight chassis, and powerful rotary engine make it one of the best, and most unique Japanese sports cars the world has seen to date. Its sequential turbo 1.3L that revved out to 8K was unlike anything on the road, and that still holds true to this day. The smaller of the two turbos would offer 10psi (.7 Bar) from 1,800 RPM until the larger of the two came online at 4,500 RPM to get you to that 8K redline. Since this car already is an icon, the styling doesn't need much help. The front bumper has been replaced with a M-Sports style which gives it a bit of a more aggressive and updated look. It has a similar look to the '99 spec bumper but has a bit more molding done to it, giving off that OEM+ vibe. The same goes for the '99 side skirts which are a little more dramatic and flow better with the new front end. Overall the paint shows well for its age with only minor swirl marks and clear coat scratches when you catch the light right. It is one of the joys of owning a black car after all. The body is in great shape though with hardly any door dings and routine little blemishes to note. A slick set of 17" 5zigen Inperio wheels replace the relatively drab stock ones and fit the color scheme fantastic.

The interior remains largely untouched as well with only a few minor changes. The factory wheel has been replaced with a red Sparco deep dish that looks right at home. A matching carbon fiber style Lanzo shift knob round out the cockpit. Mounted nicely in your line of sight along the A-pillar is an old school Greddy mechanical boost gauge to keep an accurate eye on boost levels. An aftermarket Kenwood 1.5 din was added, and while the radio has limited function it does have a 3.5mm aux input. Since it's already an aftermarket unit it makes swapping out to something more current even easier. The interior has been well maintained, however, there is some sun damage collected over the years. The most notable is the dash which has cracked along the front vent, just below the windshield. Luckily some of the more common problem spots are in good shape like the driver's side door pocket cover which is notorious for cracking. Another spot to note is the plastic on the passenger door is broken which you can see in the photos. The bolster on the drive seat does have a bit of wear from getting in and out and has been re-stitched at some point. In general, both seats and the carpets are free of any notable seam splits or stains. All of the power accessories are also functioning as they should along with cold A/C for the upcoming summer months. Since these were the top of the line model they came with all of the power accessories of the era like one-touch driver's window, power locks, and mirrors. The small cockpit is very straight forward and very well laid out. Due to its size, everything is right within arms reach and seriously does feel like a proper sports car.

Mechanically this FD remains mostly all stock. Under the hood, you'll find an upgraded HKS hard pipe kit for the intake system which is far superior to the corrugated plastic that came from the factory. The stock factory air boxes have been upgraded to open filters which free up airflow and those intoxicating turbo noises we all love. A Blitz Super Sound blow off valve really amplifies things every time you lift off the throttle. The whole car has been lowered on a set of Blitz adjustable coilovers giving it a much better stance for those 5Zigen wheels. The lowered height is nice but not so low that you'll need to worry every time you see a speed bump. Since the 13B is rather quiet in stock trim an RS catback exhaust was added. The tone is great on startup without being overbearing or droning at highway speeds. The same can be said about the coilovers, they stiffen up the ride as one would want in a proper sports car without rattling your teeth out over every bump. The rotary fires right up and is free of any smoke on startup. The 5-speed shifts smoothly with a short, crisp, throw and the clutch engages nicely. Coupled with the 8,000 rpm redline the rotary just begs for you to unwind it, so you've been warned. To make sure that everything is in tip-top shape our trained techs have gone over and replaced several key pieces. New rubber on all four corners, a new front right inner tie rod, rear lower control arm bushings, rear toe arms, and a routine oil change. Now that we have it back in corner-carving shape we've got one serious sports car on our hand. Mazda likely didn't anticipate just how special the FD was when it was originally penned. Its looks are timeless and its drivetrain is unlike anything else; what's not to love about the RX7s greatest iteration? Now is your chance to own one true Japanese Classic in every sense of the word.
