The Delica's redesign in 1994 showcased tons of improvements and resulted in a more capable, and refined package for the model. This particular van features a compact, yet punchy gasoline V6 mated to 4WD and an automatic transmission. Finished in Mitsubishi's Blue over Slate two-tone (D5HE), the body is in good shape other than some faded decals and a few minor dings, chips, and scuffs from normal use. Packed with interesting and useful interior options, and with imposing styling you can't ignore, this 39K verified mile is a terrific platform to daily drive or take a road trip in.

The cabin design is a massive departure from the prior generation in terms of design and fit and finish. Gone are the sharp angles and hard plastics, as the L400 utilizes more currency styling and premium materials. The flowing dash is neither cracked nor distorted and allows for a clear view of the road ahead. A gauge suite with inclinometer, compass, and thermometer keeps the driver abreast of some of the important vitals. Woodgrain dash accents upgrade the look of the interior, and power windows, locks, and mirrors are all standard equipment. The power-folding mirrors are fully operational as its OEM audio system. The gray seats are bolstered so that long drives can be performed in comfort, and has enough room for seven adults. The middle row can even be scooted forward for a limo-like experience. The Delicas most noticeable feature is the host of sunroofs. While they are all stationary, the interior can be filled with tons of natural light. Of note, the middle sunshade is the only one that power closes at this point. For those requiring additional ventilation, the good news is that the power front windows all have OEM rain guards so the wind does rush through the cockpit with too much turbulence. The door cards, headliners, and interior plastics are all in average shape, with no major damage such as rips or tears. The digital climate system has separate adjustments for the front and rear and the second-row captains' chair recline completely and swivel 180 degrees. The third row is removable and the tailgate will open six foot high for when you need to load up large cargo.

The punchier of the two gasoline engines was this 6G72 V6 that is mounted beneath the stubby hood. Used in various forms here stateside, parts are easy to come by and the Delica has a wealth of published service information online. This engine benefits from a fresh oil and filter service, ensuring no required maintenance is due for another three thousand miles. A newly installed 12V battery ensures that the Mitsu can start in the coldest of winters, and should last another four or five years. With a twist of the key, the 3.0L whirrs to life and sets into a constant idle. It even has a bit of an exhaust note now thanks to a Ganador axel back exhaust. Acceleration is punchy, and the van never struggles for power and can handle US interstate speeds without a sweat. A selective transfer case is available when you need a gear reduction and can be adjusted on the fly. Loads of ground clearance and short overhangs further this platforms offroad prowess, and is sufficient for daily driving on tarmac. The steering is direct enough, albeit light and the brakes feel confident in slowing this heavy people mover to a stop. A set of Jaos Victron Excel wheels are wrapped in new all-season Falken Rubitrek tires at all four corners, delivering tons of grip when required.

As an adventure van, grocery-getter, or marketing piece the Delica is a great option. Its brutish 4WD, durable motor, and imposing styling make this a can't miss Japanese Classic hauler!
