Nissan had a knack for not just refreshing, but redesigning an entire chassis between generations. When the brand debuted the Y34 Gloria and Cedric in 1999, it was larger, more luxurious, and packed full of modern power amenities and exciting powerplants. They also turned to Porsche for assistance on the chassis’ design. Sometimes our clients want unique vehicles at a more affordable entry point, which gives stateside enthusiasts the opportunity to own, restore, and enjoy these Japanese Classics for a steal! This 1999 Gloria runs, drives, and has been state safety inspected, but intermittently goes into limp mode. Finished in White Pearl (QV3), this Y34 is fashioned in OEM plus style, with OEM rainguards, an optional hood ornament, and an OEM optional front grille. An FRP front lip and late-model Infiniti alloys round off the aesthetic, and save for some minor paint imperfections, the cosmetics are in above average shape overall, and the verified 128k verified miles on the clock are a fraction of what Nissans this age typically log. Uniquely styled, well-built, and comfortable to cruise, this is one head-turning Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
The cockpit design is striking. It’s modern, and encapsulates the driver like a space shuttle. The dash sweeps the width of the cabin and houses a unique multifunction display screen, complete with dual zone climate control, easy to use OEM audio, and an optional digital instrument cluster. For the safety minded, dual SRS airbags are present up front and in the sides of the front seats for additional peace of mind. For premium comfort, both driver and passenger benefit from power adjustable seating, and the steering column can also electrically tilt and telescope with the push of a button. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors are also on hand to assist daily use, and an electronic boost gauge is affixed to the A-pillar for inquisitive drivers. The back seat is spacious, and the trunk has a decent amount of square footage for hauling larger loads. The headliner is affixed tight to the roof, and the carpets are protected by plush OEM mats. For a 25 year old cabin, the condition is good, although some interior plastics are yellowed and faded. Still, it’s cleaned up nicely and should be well suited for an eager next owner.
Mechanical Overview
Freshly revised for ’99, the VQ30DET is bolstered with NEO VVL technology and this turbo V6 is a riot! We’ve also given this VIP sleeper a comprehensive recent service, although it will need a bit more TLC to diagnose current issues and mitigate the check engine light. It cranks over with ease and we performed an oil and filter service, replacing the valve cover gaskets while we were in there to keep your lubricant internal. Six new spark plugs were dropped in to aid ignition, and this aluminum block VQ has no issues getting up to and maintaining highway speeds. Power is sent to the rear wheels, care of an automatic gearbox, which commands shifts smoothly, and aftermarket coilovers increase handling while delivering a ride that’s firm yet responsive. We refreshed the control arms up front with new bushings and ball joints, and this Gloria handles well. The six-spoke alloys are wrapped in good all-season tires. Knee deep in tread, they’ll last a good while to come, as we’ve freshly aligned this lovely Y34!
