Exterior Overview
Our bread and butter is the Toyota Hilux Surf, and we sell these things like hotcakes. Our clients love the classic styling, bulletproof reliability, and off-road capability this truck provides. This 2001 is a special example and is finished in a classic Natural White (056). This rig is set off by an OEM spoiler, an OEM chrome license plate garnish, a Ganador catback exhaust, Satoshi grille, privacy tint, OEM refinished 16″ alloys, and some aggressive privacy tint. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the paint is in fine shape, and this terrific Toyota is fresh off a recent service. Boasting the same driveline sold in our domestic 4Runners, this reliable rig is easy to service and inexpensive to modify. At only 108k verified and documented miles on the clock, it’s barely broken in, too. Perfect as a year-round daily driver, dedicated overlander, or anything in between, this practical and collectible Japanese Classic is a safe bet and can be yours today!
Interior Overview
The cabin is clean, ergonomic, and spacious. Once inside, utilizing the functional keyless entry, pilots of all sizes can find the ideal seating position courtesy of an adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. It includes a working digital automatic climate control system that pipes in hot heat and cold A/C. Below, a snazzy Panasonic touchscreen headunit supplements your commute with some tunes and is equipped with Bluetooth hands-free tech. To make daily use more enjoyable, functional power mirrors, power locks, and power windows are on hand. Even the rear hatch glass powers down to promote natural ventilation. The seats are in above average shape and are trimmed in a textured gray cloth. The rear bench can four-way recline, split fold, and tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. They lack any major rips, stains or tears, and the same material is mirrored in the door cards, which are in good shape. The headliner and carpets have resisted major abuse over the years and it’s clear the Japanese owner babied the cabin, and it shows!
Mechanical Overview
The body-on-frame construction is able to withstand tough terrain without breaking a sweat. Also up to the task is the 3RZ-FE powerplant. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L springs to life courtesy of a new 12V battery. A new engine air filter helps eke out a couple more miles per tank, and one of our trained techs improved the engine’s thermal efficiency by replacing the radiator and flushing in new coolant. The four-banger feels healthy as a horse, purrs through the aftermarket exhaust, and it is mated to a stout automatic. It slots into gear precisely with new shifter bushings, and gear changes occur without issue. To keep things running tip-top, we also performed a transmission fluid exchange. Torque is fed through a selective transfercase to the rear of both axles. The pilot can switch between 2WD and 4WD on the fly, and a low range and center locker can be engaged when extra traction is required. The Surf gets up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat, and when you need to slow down, ABS is standard. The suspension has received a refresh, and it rides quite nicely. New rear shocks, rear upper and lower control arms, and rear sway bar links help out a bunch. We also swapped in new front sway bar bushings, links, and new front lower control arm bushings. The power steering is direct and on point, and grip is handled by four new 31″ Falken tires. The power steering is direct and connected for an SUV, and this Toyota is turnkey and ready to roll.
