If the Celsior wasn't good enough already, by late 1997 another refresh was in order. More performance, safety, and a couple of styling tweaks were added to further perfect this already stellar design. This Diamond White Pearl (051) example is a wonderful turn-key saloon, and was optioned with a  factory leather interior. Complimented by rear privacy tint and a set of OEM rainguards, this chassis exudes class!  Fresh off a recent service, this Type C is offered with only 47k verified and documented miles on the counter. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scratches associated with normal use, the body and paint are in good shape overall as is the spacious cabin. Reliable, comfortable, and easy to service, this trusty Toyota would make for an ideal daily commuter, family hauler, or unique weekend cruiser perfect for a jaunt to Cars & Coffee, and is a Japanese Classic built to stand the test of time. 

The cabin is in above-average shape overall and includes some rare options. The two that stand out are the electric sunroof, which works as it should, and the leather seats. The good stuff doesn't stop there, as there are a host of other electric features. The driver benefits from an electric steering column to find the optimal driving position, and power windows, locks, and power-folding mirrors all make daily use more enjoyable. Both driver and passenger have electric seats and power seat belt adjusters, too. The leather seats lack any major imperfections and the door cards and headliner have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major damage. The old owner even included the OEM mats to protect the carpet against future stains. The center stack houses a slew of equipment such as dual-zone automatic climate control and an OEM audio system, with factory touch-screen accessibility. Both work, as do the front heated seats, which are perfect for the long winter ahead. We did mention the safety updates the biggest being dual front and side SRS airbags. The dash-mounted unit lacks any distortion and the dash lacks any cracking or fading. Cruise control is on hand for a future road trip and the sound-deadened cabin filters out almost all of the road and wind noise from outside. As a whole, it's really hard to complain about this aside from a broken key, and it's obvious this vehicle was cared for in a prior life. 

Under the hood, a slate of changes make this Celsior into a whole different animal to drive. The addition of VVT-i and an extra speed for the transmission, up the ante for performance and fuel economy. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.0L churns to life care of a new 12v battery we installed here in our shop. The 1UZ-FE whirrs to life and is nearly silent and vibration free in its operation. For proper combustion, a new fuel filter and set of spark plugs were added while it was on the lift. The engine breathes freely thanks to a new engine air filter, and a new set of serpentine belts will keep the electronics powered properly. When called upon, the Celsior gets up and moves in a snap. The automatic gearbox rips off shifts just as it should, and sends power to the rear wheels, as you'd expect from a proper luxury sedan. Highway cruising is particularly nice, and large and small road imperfections are sorted out easily by the air ride suspension. While up on the lift we installed new caster arms so this Toyota should handle as intended. As impressively as the Celsior accelerates it stops just as well. The standard anti-lock braking system adds some reassurance for those in snowy climates and new rear brake pads give the disc brakes a fresh lease on life. To complete the list of reconditioning items we mounted and balanced four new Falken tires at all four corners. The new rubber quiets down the ride noticeably and also will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
