The Land Cruiser J80's are no doubt a beast on the streets and even more so when the pavement stops. These trucks became a legend with their big, boxy, styling and the do-it-all practicality all while riding in luxury. Just because something is built for off road use doesn't mean it has to do without. Our Jet Black 1993 is the perfect embodiment of that philosophy. While many of the VX Limiteds that we've sold were a little more off road styled, this one comes in with a more modern flair. Riding high on 33x12.5 20" Fuel Krank D517 gives this cruiser a much more aggressive tone. While originally Emerald Green it was resprayed black at some point in it's lifetime which really flows well with the black wheels. The color swap was well done, all of the jambs, under the hood, etc. were done, so unless you're looking up the VIN tag paint code you'd never know. Like many of these luxury cruisers, while it's extremely capable off road, most people aren't really going to be using it for that. The body of this Limited seems to tell that same story. Save for some routine little door dings and stone chips, the body is very straight and looks great. The paint shows well for it age, however the large hood does have some etching and a few flakes in the clearcoat. Blacked our side and rear windows give this big beast a sinister look while helping to cut down on interior cabin temps. It's even still sporting the over sized factory rain guards.

If the body didn't rope you in, then the interior will. Even by today's standards the Cruiser comes well appointed. One of the nicest upgrades comes courtesy of the custom fitted, black leather seat covers. Not only do that look better than the factory cloth it also helps to preserve the seats and bolsters from every day wear and tear. The highly desirable third row is not covered due to the jump seat design. The middle row folds forward for easier access, and when not in use the back seats will flip up against the rear windows nearly doubling the cargo space. If you truly have no use for the third row then it can always be unbolted and removed. Loading and unloading is considerably easier thanks to the split folding rear hatch. The silver and black theme is carried through to the Nardi 3 spoke wheel which is far more sleek than the factory one and looks nearly new. Atop the gauge cluster there is a split on the dash that can't be seen well in the pictures. Luckily because of the placement it's largely out of the line of sight. A bevy of power accessories make day to day life more enjoyable. All 4 windows roll down completely which is surprising for most vehicles these days; even the rear windows can be slid open to provide additional ventilation for the rear occupants. A power sunroof can be opened up completely or left in the venting mode. Once the summer becomes too much to deal with both front and rear passengers have no lack of air conditioning. The automatic climate control is really kicking in this one, and the clear tube running in the back is a separate vent just for the third row which is a really clever setup. On top of that there's even a cool box in the center console for drinks. Another hard to find feature in Japanese cars was cruise control. Due to the size and nature of the island there wasn't much need, however here on the open roads of the US it's a great thing to have. Aside from a little dirt on the carpets the interior really has been kept up outstandingly well.

Powered by the bruty 4.5 liter 1FZ-FE that was used here in the US. Due to that fact parts availability is extremely easy; you could literally take it in to your local Toyota dealer for service. These motors are known for being notoriously robust, so at 95K verified miles this thing is just getting broken in. It's also notable that this inline engine design has virtually no vibration transmitted. Anyone that's familiar with the larger tire setups on SUV's and trucks is aware that these are a bit noisier on the highway. The whine isn't bad, but it's not riding in the back of an S-Class. The automatic transmission shifts well, albeit with little urgency. The rugged 4x4 system is fitted with the front and rear LSD with a central locking diff thats eager to perform, making this hauler just as capable making a run to Costco in the snow, as it is fording a river. Since touching down with us the VX has only needed a quick refresh to get it road ready. A new battery quickly turns over the 1FZ, which is surprisingly quite through the stock exhaust. Unlike it's diesel brother that may bother the neighbors clattering to life when you get ready to leave for work in the morning. The suspension rides rather smoothly over uneven roads, and the brakes are more than capable to bring this beast to a halt. The 80 platform has become a benchmark in the Toyota SUV lineup, and there's no question why. An unstoppable, luxury ride that seats 7, what more could you ask for in a daily driver?
