Stock #6244A turbodiesel Surf is a hell of a daily driver. They are efficient, reliable, peppy, determined, and capable. This 1997 one-owner is handsome too, finished in a fresh coat of Audi Navarra Blue(LX5H) and set off by a stylish set of WEDS alloys, a factory rear swingarm, and some subtle privacy tint. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the body is in good nick and this intercooled beast is turn key ready to rock. Only having logged a mere 159k verified and documented miles on the clock, this rig is barely broken in. The low-end torque is addictive, and this center-locked example is an ideal truck for a beach outing, scooping the kids from school, or a weekend cruise. This 4x4 Japanese Classic is an impressive performer, and incredibly well rounded, too!The cabin is in good nick and was cared for in a prior life in Japan. Upon entering the interior, the driver is greeted with a tilt-adjustable steering column. This SSR-X has a seat update which includes adjustable lumbar support making longer cruises more comfortable. If this rig is to be daily driven, the power windows, locks, and side mirrors are all in good working order. The Eclipse audio works like a charm and adds a more modern feel to the cabin. The A/C blows cold, and the automatic climate control system is intuitive to use. If natural ventilation is your preference the rear glass also rescinds downward into the hatch at the press of a button. The seats are made of durable gray cloth, and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row can tumble forward and fold flat, creating a larger cargo area. The headliner, door cards, and carpets have withstood the past quarter century without sustaining major abuse. It even has the original owner's manual and maintenance booklets on hand, located in the glove box. That is not to say the cabin is perfect as we did want to note a light amount dash distortion from UV exposure by the right corner of the glovebox and a tiny burn hole on the driver's seat bottom. Still, at 25 years old its clear this one was cared for in Japan. The underpinnings of this SUV are shared with our Stateside 4Runner so sourcing parts and upgrades is easy as pie. This 1KZ-TE under the hood steals the show and is known for its toughness, power, and efficiency. The 3.0L is fresh off an oil and filter service and churns over promptly with the twist of the key thanks to a new 12v battery. We spruced up the four-banger diesel with new serpentine belts, and a new valve cover gasket. We took care of the half-moon seals as well, as they commonly leak. The rest of the driveline was in good nick, and the automatic gearbox shifts properly and makes good use of the gobs of low-end torque this engine produces. We replaced the old transmission fluid with new stuff. This platform sails up to highway speeds with ease and sustained freeway driving is stress-free. If you need to reel this Surf to a quick stop, new front brake pads and rotors are on hand and do a great job!  For efficiency, the driver can send power just to the rear axle, but when grip becomes an issue 4WD can be engaged on the fly. If snow or sand stands in your way a low range and center locker can be deployed. The suspension is predictable and can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse. The power steering is direct and we have improved the system with new rack bushings. We also took care of the front and rear sway bar bushings while we were at it. The WEDS Keeler alloys are wrapped in new all-terrain rubber that will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to roll, this five-seater Hilux Surf checks all the boxes. *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
