1996 Land Cruiser KZJ95
The Land Cruiser is nearly unstoppable off the beaten path, but how about the 95 Series on-road performance. This 1996 feels modern and refined on the tarmac, whiles still maintaining its unparalleled offroad pedigree. Finished in a one-off Hyper Gray over Black two-tone, the body is in good shape aside from some minor scuffs, dings, and chips associated with normal use. With a mere 121k verified and documented miles, this Prado would make for a perfect daily and weekend trail warrior. The OEM brushguard, privacy tint, a new 3" lift, and Level 8 alloy wheels add to the menacing aesthetic. Recently serviced, this three-row SUV is safe, spacious, and packs a wallop thanks to a punchy 1KZ turbo diesel. Reliable, rugged, and ready to rock this turn-key Land Cruiser is a bonafide Japanese Classic!
The cabin is nearly as large as the big brother 80 series and the accommodations are fantastic. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding and the dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion. A field monitor is centrally located and includes a clinometer and compass for our off-road die-hards. Dual SRS airbags are standard as is a simple to use automatic climate control system. The air conditioning works as does the heat so this SUV can be used year-round. The factory audio was upgraded to a Carrozerria touchscreen unit and it functions in case you want some tunes for a road trip. The seats steal the show in the cabin and there are three rows total with a capacity of seven. The blue textured cloth is in above average shape and lacks any rips, stains, or tears of note. The second row can be folded forward and the third row removed completely or tucked away on the d-pilar. A power sunroof supplies the cabin with extra natural light and ventilation and the electric windows, door locks, and power-folding mirrors work like a charm. With all this equipment it's no wonder why people love to daily drive these 95s. The cargo door is side-hinged for a wide loading area and the loading height is impressive. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as the rear cupholder is broken and the power antenna intermittently works. Either way, at 25 years young, this Prado has held up well!
One of the pleasant surprises, as we imported this new generation of Land Cruisers, was how composed and luxurious the platform feels. This rig is powered by the 1KZ-TE turbo diesel and it's fresh off an oil and filter service. The four-banger clamors to life thanks to two new 12v batteries installed here at our facility. A new set of serpentine belts keeps everything running smooth and a new engine air filter allows the 3.0L to breath better. Power is sent to all four wheels through a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox. For those living in cold climates or for use on sand, a low range setting can be engaged as can a center locking differential. A new 3" Rough Country lift kit adds some ground clearance and does a decent job of sorting out the bump along with the help of brand new inner and outer tie rods and new steering rack bushings. The brakes have been bolstered by new front pads and rotors and this five thousand plus pound truck is composed under braking. The steering is on point and the Level 8 wheels are wrapped in new Falken tires at all four corners. We even replaced the spare!
